The whole time that I was reading this book I kept thinking that I had read it before. So many of the parts in the story were just so familiar. It wasn't until I finished and read the other reviews that I saw some reviewers saying how much this book was like older Julie Garwood books. That was it! I actually hadn't read this one, just others like it. This book is good, but Julie Garwood is better. Johnstone does capture the time period well. The politics of the era ring true. I have to admit that I found myself more interested in the secondary characters at times than I did the hero and heroine. One thing that always annoys me is when the hero is determined never to love his new wife because of his loyalty to his dead wife. Of course, he is madly in love with her almost immediately but just won't admit it. *sigh* The heroine's perky "I love everyone even though I have been horribly abused all my life" attitude got a little annoying at times, too. And her tendency to 'disobey' orders meant to keep her safe....well, that is something a lot of authors do to make their heroines seem brave and self-reliant, but often make them seem foolish instead. For the most part, I did enjoy this book, but not enough to read the next one.Sexual situations may offend some readers

Pros: These little points are high praise from me, bc I think that a lot of authors fail at them. The story is very well done with good plot twists and smooth progressions. The characters are full of depth and very likable, and the conflict is sensible not forced. The author seems to have a good grip on the time period and provides details of the setting that you can actually experience.Cons: Wordy, I generally do not skim when I read, but I found myself getting annoyed with all the words. Not that they were unnecessary to the story, but I just didn't care.The sex scenes were meh, too flowery and cliche for my tastes, could have used more experienced details less enrapturement.All in all though, I did enjoy the book and didn't want to put it down. I really liked most of the characters and the story itself was fantastic, I look forward to reading more from this author, I just kind of wish the cons could be righted.

Going into this I knew a hero who still mourns the loss of his deceased wife is not my cup of tea. In the heroine’s own words, she feels she is being forced to marry a man in love with a ghost. With that said, it seems if anyone has a chance at being a ghost buster, it’s the leading lady, Lady Marion. Ian is instantly attracted to her physical beauty, feistiness, dagger yielding ways, compassion, and courage in the face of danger. Yeah, she has his heart right from the beginning, folks, he just doesn’t want to admit to anyone, especially himself. It certainly helps it has been over a year since Catriona’s passing and Marion is her complete polar opposite in every way.Having wed Catriona, a childhood friend, to help her avoid an unwanted arranged marriage, Ian did eventually fall in love with his sweet but very fragile/frail wife, who died from a long term illness. Having vowed to never open his Scottish heart to such pain again, he is racked with guilt over his immediate heart palpitations and unwanted longing for an English beauty, who from the second he meets her, keeps him on his toes. Unfortunately, Marion’s heart is the one that repeatedly takes a beating, after they marry under a direct order by the king. It’s a good thing she’s resilient and knows how to speak up/defend herself.With writing that flows, authentic Scottish brogue, great supporting sub-characters, and an engaging storyline with twists and turns, I was able to endure the arrows to Marion’s heart each and every time Ian put his foot in his mouth...but barely. Honestly, someone needs to pull that handsome knucklehead aside and tell him wanting to be open and honest is one thing, but knowing when to keep your trap shut is important, too.At 30% into it, when they share their first kiss, he’s a goner. But he still continued to remind everyone that no one will ever take Catriona’s place. But not to worry, he eventually comes to his senses. And that, my romance book-loving friends, is precisely why I took a chance on this romantic tale. You see, I was in the mood for a groveling hero and this author did not disappoint. His glaringly obvious behaviors after that just made the main characters, including his own laird and clan, look stupid for not doing something about him early on.And why, oh why, do some romance writers (this one included) continue to portray immature, stubborn and irresponsible women as spirited, smart and independent heroines?! The reader is meant to be convinced that her behaviors that put people's lives in danger, including her own, over and over again makes her courageous, brave and able to take care of herself?! No.For the reasons contained in the 2 previous paragraphs, no strong, self-respecting laird/leader would tolerate behaviors that would put the clan in potential danger.This story was predictable to the very end.

I found out all at once that I have hip dysplasia and need a hip replacement at 28 years old. It's all very scary to me. I knew NOTHING about the surgery or hip dysplasia for that matter. The book helped me know what's going on better. In ways that made it more scary but that's beside the point.

An excellent book regarding total hip and knee replacements and what can go wrong as well what doctors might be reluctant to explain to patients.While this book is extremely informative, on occasions it worries readers more than it might be needed especially prior to the surgery where patients might be overwhelmingly worried about their pending surgery.

Dr. Grelsamer gives the best advice! It’s like sitting down with your surgeon for a few hours for the conversation your own physician is probably too busy to have. Clearly written and easy to understand , this book should be given to every patient considering surgery.

I found this book to be extremely positive and informative.Although it focuses on the knee and hip, I would recommend it to anyone facing non-emergency surgery.This book does explain in layman's terms the actual proceedures for a knee or hip,however what I found most helpfull was the information on how to prepare for surgery,what to expect the day of surgery such as hospital proceedures, and post surgery.The technicalities of surgeries for other joints are easily obtainable on-line.It was the info mentioned above surrounding the hospital experience that I felt to be the most helpful and enpowering.

With experience and humor Dr. Grelsamer offers us what we need to know to decide about surgery and to prepare for surgery. In my case, total knee replacement surgery. This book is very up to date; the facts don't change. I read it several times before surgery and once afterwards. I have given copies to many friends soon to have, or who will eventually have, total knee replacement surgery. Grelsamer is an excellent surgeon but not one who rushes to surgery.

I bought this book as I am having total knee replacement in a few months. I know that because I had a total hip replacement in September 201l. This book was published a few years ago but I read the whole book and I will say that everything that was described in the section about hip replacement before, during and after the surgery is pretty accurate.

Somewhat dated, better books out there!

This really is just that, a great book. He explains in plain english the information you need to know about your hips and knees. He talks about when to go for surgery and when to avoid it. How to tell if you have a good Dr. and how to find a great Dr.He explains the anatomy and the principles in plain and clear english. He is truly an excellent writer and I cannot more strongly recommend his work.

Still going good, not sure how much can be left in the story. This looks like it may be reaching either an end or a turning point in the very near future. Still enjoying the growth of the main character, although he does seem a little slow to learn. Still think it is a good series, not sure what is next a pretty good read.

This author really brings his characters to life in his writings. The characters continue to evolve as the situations evolve and the craziness they are going through. Fun action packed kicking buttocks enjoyment.

Interesting look at the future universe and everything going on. Nicely developed characters and some neat twists and turns in this book. Looking forward to next book in series.

Another well-written and exciting book in the series but the ending didn't give us much of a clue as to what to expect if another book follows.

Hair raising shindigs, unexpected plot twists, and more craziness from the team as they carve a serious swathe through the galaxy

Action packed, read through this one in just a few hours. Lots of surprises and promise of another book to come, can't wait to read it

I like the flow of the story. Sequels that keep history of characters in line gives your story better understanding and allows is to leave our day behind.

As is the case with the Golden Guides, this little book is an excellent tool. It is not the most in-depth reading, however, but I am one who prefers to plan out heavy research, rather than stumble on it while I'm outside. It prevails where larger, more precise guides fail by being small and light. While you will get more information with other guides, none are as easy to carry on your person as this one. After all, what good is a field guide that weighs you down in the field?

How many fourth grade science reports have been written out of these little books by Zim? Back in the late 1950s (upper pleistocene to most), every kid worth his dinosaurs had a bunch of these nature guides (I lived with "Mammals;" "Reptiles and Amphibians;" "Rocks, Gems and Minerals;" "Fishes;" and "Insects")."Mammals" is a very handy sized book giving a picture of each U.S. (lower 48) mammal with a painting, short description of habits, reproduction, and range. In the back are found the scientific names (I find this handy as I can never remember them when sitting in front of my computer). Excellent for ages six and up.I considered "Mammals" good enough to order one for my six-foot-two son to put in his pack. Don't leave home without it!

A bit out of date but still gives good, accurate informations on the mammals of North America. I have used this book since I was a kid in New York City and when I moved with my family to the Hudson Valley south of Albany and found it most useful. I wanted a hardcover library edition an it's larger print is nice for my older eyes.

Great bargin, really good resource for quick mammal identification.

I'm currently collecting these Golden Guide nature books for my boy because they are what I grew up with. They are a bit dated but I love the artwork and the information is still quite pertinent. I hope to have the full collection before he turns 4. I just love these books.

Simple, nice illustrations. Would be good for middle schoolers.

Purchased for granddaughter, age 5, and she loves all of these books about nature. I read to her about the things she gets interested in by the pictures.

6 year loves this books. They are a good size for her and with lots of pictures. She uses the book to identify animals in our yard and has surprised me with how well she can find exactly the right animal.

Strange that I'm the first person to review this book ...Anyway, the title and book description are misleading. There's very little discussion about what Einstein, Russell, Pauli, and Godel talked about. In fact, there's debate about whether such meetings even took place at all, at least with all four of them present simultaneously.Instead, the book provides somewhat detailed bios of the four of them, as well as shorter bios of other people they interacted with, such as Bohr, Oppenheimer, Wittgenstein, and many others. The book also provides a popular history of the early phase of the development of modern physics (with some tolerable inaccuracies), and its application in the development of the atomic bomb.This is certainly stimulating subject matter, I learned some new things, and the book is generally well researched and well written. But, again, the scope isn't what the title and book description imply, so I feel that there's false advertising going on, hence my deducting two stars.

It is important to reiterate that this book is not what it is described as. I did learn about the development of theoretical physics in the early 20th century, and the personalities involved, but I would not have bought this book if it had been honesty described.I thought the interaction of these minds would be fascinating. Apparently we'll never know.The Audible blurb states "...Albert Einstein invited three close friends - all titans of contemporary science and philosophy - to his home at 112 Mercer Street in Princeton, New Jersey, to discuss what they loved best: science and philosophy." It neglects to mention that they are not described in the actual book.The publisher's summary says "Using these historic meetings as his launching pad..." Launching pad is kind - it implies the book spent some time on that subject before heading elsewhere - not true.The book tells us that these meetings may or may not have occurred, and goes on to talk about the author's real agenda, which is not about any interaction between the characters in Princeton. All well and good, except I would not have bought that book if I had known what it was really about.While literary quality may be somewhat subjective, a description of a book's actual content is not Audible is obligated to correctly describe what this book is about so readers know what they are getting.

I noticed this book in the book store and the cover looked familiar. I already have it and the title of mine is "112 Mercer Street " by Burton Feldman and completed by Katherine Williams and published in 2007. What gives?The book is so-so

This book covers the basics as we teach new personnel in our fire agency. This is the bible we use for fire fighting at the basic functional level. You can delve deeper into some of the topics if desired, but this gives the basic recruit the knowledge and ability/practice to do the job safely and efficiently. Specialize later, but get the basics down first. I always learn something from the classes I teach, and this is the required text for my fire classes.

Book I'm using for FF1 Academy, its nice because I can use the same book for FF2 Academy. Some chapters share material for both FF1/FF2 and are clearly delineated by markers on the page corner (that means when I finish the FF1 material Im not accidently reading FF2 stuff).

This book is essential if you want to learn about fires, fire behavior etc. This is a must if you want to become a firefighter.

The book was required for school and has all the info of course. 6 weeks into the course and we get to chapters 19 and 20 which look like I need 3D glasses to read. The headlines look the worst but the regular print is off just enough that you feel your eyes crossing.

Much bigger book than I thought, however my son can't put it down. This book has everything about firefighting from day 1 to getting hired. Great book!

As an instructor I've used and reviewed the other companies out there and I always go back to IFSTA. This book is an excellent choice for those getting into the fire service as well as those in the service looking to brush up. Highly recommend.
