A classic, filled with wisdom and insights into the shifts in legal reasoning following the New Deal cases. The book itself is short and extremely dry - a slog to get through. Having said that, the book is a valuable read and a classic in the field.

I attempted to read this before paralegal, and after paralegal school while working in a legal capacity, and honestly, this is quite painful to read. When I first read it I didn't enjoy it. I thought it was because I was uneducated. This whole thing reads like dicta, but unapologetically douchey. Legal Reasoning from the Delaney Series is much better.

A small book concerning Edward Levi's theory on legal reasoning. The size is perfectly compact, but don't let that fool you. Levi's reasoning takes serious concentration to follow. By no means an "introduction" to the law, you should have a fairly good grasp on the workings of the court system before trying to finish this. The excellent new foreword to this edition by Schauer helps give needed context. Recommended for anyone heading to law school or interested in legal theory.

Excellent primer for understanding common-law judging. Unfortunately also an apologetic tract for tyrannical kritarchy. Worth reading.

It is a short book, but worth the price, and comprehensively packed with details about logical and legal reasoning. I can't imagine what you could do with it other than prepare for law school and/or law school exams/writing, but for that purposes, it reliably serves you well.If you're heading to law school next Fall, pick it up (but be prepared to feel a bit overwhelmed/exciting about how much there is to learn), and when you're IN law school, pick it up (and be prepared to understand a heck of a lot more than when you read it the first time)!

This book was not all bad. I enjoyed the info behind the law and how they were created. Other than that it was just OK.

Some of the material was slightly dated, and it was written with a legal style which can be difficult for the legal novice. Sort of a Catch-22. If you can read and clearly understand, you do not need what you just read.

Levi explains in the preface that the purpose of his thesis is to provide an analysis developed at the trial level based on statutory and constitutional law. The trials and their analysis are ones, for the most part, which have reached the appellate level. He notes that Judge Frank appreciates the discretionary organization of fact at the trial level whereas Dean O'Meara appreciates benefits of the natural law approach. O'meara contends that for those trials that to do reach the appellate level, "a well established principle, expressive of the earlier decisions, is clearly dispositive of the controversy." Levi dedicates his thesis to providing examples which help provide an explanation to the process of legal reasoning. He focuses more on the process rather than one method over anotherDevelopment: Levi begins to explain the process of legal reasoning as it relates to case law and initially that it is a three step process; similarity is seen between cases, law inherent in the first case is announced, and then the rule of law is made applicable to the second case. This method works well for case law but that for other areas it may present many imperfections. It is the similarities or differences in each case that is determined by the judge. There will be cases where there is no precedent and therefore in these cases the legal process cannot simply be the "application of known rules to diverse facts." Reasoning by example in the law, as Levi writes, is key in part to that which the law process holds over the litigants. As the law is ever changing to meet the new challenges presented by a growing and highly technological society, reasoning by example or precedent illustrates the important role where the common ideas of a society can have in shaping the law. "What a court says is dictum, but what a legislature says is statute. Interpretation of intention when dealing with a statute the is way of describing the attempt to compare cases on the basis of the standard thought to be common at the time the legislation was passed." The courts interpret legislation through the appellate process and it is here, through this process, that the courts impact the ever changing law. In section two of Levi's thesis he gives examples of how judges interpreted the law based on precedent and also how each opinion led to changes in the next. The cases he sites begin with MacPherson v. Buick; the potential liability of a seller of an article which cause injury to a person who did not buy the article from the seller. Due to limited space I am going to attempt to be very brief describing these. This case was in 1816 and takes us to 1851; Langridge v. Levy. The plaintiff contended that the defendant had sold a defective gun for the use of himself and his sons. In this case the gun went off causing a lamp to explode which caused the actual injuries to the son. Five years later in Winterbottom v. Wright the court refused to permit a coachman to recover against the defendant who had provided a defective coach under contract with the Postmaster General. The coach had broken down and the plaintiff causing him to become lame. "He could not recover because to extend liability this far would lead to absurd and outrageous consequences. This is where I believe the author is getting close to "Proximate Cause and just how far liability should extend at the time of this writing in 1949." "It must be realized that the words of a statute are not dictum but rather legislative intent. The legislature may have had a particular case uppermost in mind, but it has spoken in general terms." In this sense the statutory interpretation tells how to operate and through the courts application of the appellate process the statute changes with the views of a society with the constraints of the Constitution. " On June 25th, 1910, the Mann Act provides in part: Any person who shall knowingly transport to or cause to be transported, or aid or assist in obtaining transportation for, or in transporting, in interstate or foreign commerce or in any territory or in the District of Columbia, any woman or girl for the purpose of prostitution or debauchery, or for any other immoral purpose, or with the intent and purpose to induce, entice, or compel such woman or girl to become a prostitute, or to give herself up to debauchery, or to engage in any other immoral practice... shall be deemed guilty of a felony. During the time of the Mann Act large American cities had illegal and segregated red light districts. Some representatives thought the bill to be too vague in almost every respect. There was much debate surrounding this bill. On one side there were those in favor of home rules, or powers of the state. On the other side there were those that argued that "public health and public morals appeal to us. The proposed legislation is constitutional, and it is related to moral considerations of the most compelling force." Levi dedicates an impressive amount of his thesis in order to follow the changes to The Mann Act over time. It is not within the scope of this review to attempt to paraphrase this work to the reader in this review, as interesting as it is. It is my belief that Levi follows the changes and history of The Mann Act in order to reinforce the belief that laws and statutes are ever changing in order to meet the needs of a changing society. Had this thesis been written in 2009, as opposed to 1949, I believe we would still enjoy this fundamental belief but with the added excitement and challenges which technology brings to the table.Conclusion: Levi has used examples of case law, statutory law, and constitutional interpretation to illustrate his point that the law is ever changing as technology and a society changes within the constraints of its constitution. Things that may have at one time been considered to be extremely dangerous items for sale may have become commonplace due to improved technologies and experience. I believe Levi's main point in this thesis is to illustrate the "process" of legal reasoning through the examples he has provided. Changes in technology, society, and communication all play their respective parts in the process of legal reasoning as Levi has presented them.

Action packed, intriguing mystery and a ghost story combine to make a incredible read. The writing is awesome, the writer weaves the tale and creates the world-building with such beautiful craft that it feels like a normal world. The story-line kept me glued to my kindle.I am loving the Ghost hunting partnership of Jude and Copeland. They are very different men, but have so much connection. They have focused on their professional partnership, however this investigation requires them to offer some emotional support to each other. I enjoyed them getting closer in this story and that closeness felt authentic and as part of their journey. I am loving how Jude is discovering himself and growing as this series progresses. Jude and Copeland have so much to discover about each other and i can hardly wait.This is book two in the Haunted Souls series and i think you really need to have read book one for this to be a meaningful story. I am enjoying this spin-off of the Cold Case Psychic series where we met Jude and the rest of the paranormal family. I so enjoy getting to see the inter-relationship with all the rest of their made family at West Side Magick.

Copeland (Cope) and Jude have settled in to their partnership. They are each living in their own places and haven’t yet given in to their feelings from the one time they we’re together. When a boy come to them asking for help with a ghost they can’t say no. This case as it turns out, puts a target on everyone they love.So hard to review these books because the twists and turns really need to be discovered by the reader. Not the best book involving all the people in West Side Magick but still an entertaining and goose bump (in places) inducing story. Enough Ronan antics to give me my laughs. I enjoyed it.

Excellent book! This is book 2 about Jude and Copeland. There is all kind of action in this book. You have a scary women in white ghost, a ghost that somehow hitches rides with people who visit the house or come close to it and (best part) you have Jude (and Copeland).Pinedora Pine is an excellent author. Her books are so good. This series is off to a great start.

I cannot say this enough: I *LOVE* this entire Pandoraverse. And yeah, that’s what I’m going to start calling it now that it has expanded so much! After the first book in this spinoff series, I was dying to see where this next one takes Jude and Cope, both professionally and in their personal lives. Jude is finally truly embracing this, er.. unique.. family that is full of the love and support he and Cope both desperately need (even if they won’t admit it). He and Cope are also finding their way together as partners at work as well as friends outside of it. And while I do enjoy their friendship, delicious sexual tension of this magnitude has to spark and ignite (again) at some point, right??Right.And daaamn, is it ever hot when it does!One of my favorite elements of this book, and the series so far, is getting to experience Jude’s journey with him as he reclaims the parts of his soul he has suppressed for so long. The mythos behind it all is so incredibly intriguing and I can’t wait to learn more about Jude’s heritage and see him really become the man and healer he is meant to be. Oh, and let me scream this from pretty much everywhere, yet again: I LOVE LOVE LOOOVE JUDE AND RONAN. I love everything about them and their relationship, and my love for them somehow grows with each book. One of my favorite relationships in MM romance, in fact, and go figure: it’s completely platonic. I happen to love that too. And them. Mine. I mean.. what?As for the plot, this is one good old fashioned ghost story with higher stakes than anyone involved is comfortable with, and a twist that is a bit spooky on its own but is made terrifying with the real-life consequences Xavier and the others experience as Jude, Cope, and our favorite merry band of psychics race to figure everything out before anyone close to them is hurt or worse. The general story of the Woman in White is one that is well-known in many areas of the world, many having their own spin on it. Pandora Pine’s clever take on the legend lends suspense and significant danger to the story, and the result is a few hundred pages of wonderfully enthralling ghosty goodness with characters we have all fallen for over and over again. There were moments reading this when I gasped out loud in shock and some that had me actually holding my breath, some had me crying while yet others had me almost crying in laughter. I need more of these guys already, and I am so looking forward to what is coming next for Jude and Cope!

Ghost Story is the second book in the Haunted Souls series by Pandora Pine. This is the second book with Jude and Copeland as the main characters with Tennyson, Ronan and rest of the crew as the secondary characters. I absolutely loved this book. I enjoy reading the Cold Case Psychic series, but I really like the Haunted Souls because ever since Jude got introduced in this world, I wanted to learn more about him. Ghost Story is about Jude and Copeland working together as Ghost Detectives. This case was a fun and fast read. I really like Ghost Story because we continue to learn more about Jude and Copeland. There were some questions that finally got answered in this book. After finding out some of the answers now I love Jude even more! I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Also, I really like Copeland and Jude’s relationship. Jude is finally growing up and is learning to slowly opening up to Copeland and Ronan. I love seeing the character development that these two characters are going through. Another reason I love this book is the overall case in this story. Copeland and Jude meet Xavier who is in desperate need of help and Jude and Copeland do all they can to help him. The case was fascinating, and I really enjoyed reading how Jude and Copeland solve the case.Overall, I love reading this book, and I read this book in about a day because I was hooked from the beginning. I highly recommend this story for you to read, and if you have not yet read the other book in this series or the Cold Psychic series, I would also recommend those books so you can get the full experience. I know that I will re-read this book and that I will read the next book as soon as it comes out.I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

This is more than just basic book on vocal technique and development and does a wonderful job augmenting my work with a professional techer. I purchased the digital edition for portability and convenience. I was disappoinited when it came to obtaining the examples and excercises, however, as the link for downloading them no longer works at Wiley. Apparently, the book is no longer listed in the download section. Bad news as custojmers have to go through an ordeal to get them, including a photo or screenshot of all the particulars...title, isbn number and copy of your receipt. The service is handled offshore to the US and the customer service reps are not very good communicators. I tried hard and never got a supervisor to take of=ver the case. I did finally get the files for this book and its companion, Singing Exercises for Dummies, but prepare for a 45 minute ordeal. Thought you all should know.

I am a voice teacher and while this book has lots of good information, it doesn't replace a real teacher. I can't imagine trying to learn to sing out of a book. It would be akin to trying to learn yoga or a martial art, or acting, or comedic improvisation without a teacher.

I ordered Singing for Dummies originally because I have had experience with the "Dummies" line of instruction books and had confidence in their effectiveness. But this book was truly instructive. All I was looking for was the basics about breathing, intonation and range. The "nuts and bolts" of singing. The drills included on the CD were very helpful. References placed through the book reminding you where to find the text pertaining to a drill or aspect of singing made it easy to put together the point being made. It was a real bargain.

I haven't completed the book but it has been good so far. I am trying to pursue a career in singing and songwriting so this is great to get a good base of knowledge like a 101 course in college.

There's a lot of information in this book, so if you're looking to learn how to sing (especially for a beginner like me) this is the book to get. It will have you singing comfortably in no time.I've immediately heard the beautiful changes, in my singing voice, even my talking voice has improved a bit. it's the voice exercises among other things I am sure.I also got You Can Sing (with Audio CD) (You Can) but that isn't as helpful as this one.If you like to learn how to sing, I'd also recommend getting a piano or a keyboard or some sort of musical instrument that will help you know if you're hitting the right notes.I'd say, after you get the basics, then you can decide if you'd like to get a live singing coach. I mean if you're only singing for fun, you may not need one.

I've always wanted to learn more about singing and this did the trick. It's easy to read and explains not just how to improve but why using these methods will help you improve. Plus, the included CD takes you through vocal warm ups and exercises that you can do over and over to gradually strengthen your voice and extend your vocal range.

I bought this together with "Singing Exercises for Dummies", same author. Both books are very informative and thorough. No book is going to make you a good singer by itself, you need a coach who can listen to you and give you feedback. However, the more you learn and the more exercises you do, the better. As I said about the other book, it can only help.

Seth Riggs' book /CD/course is indispensable but this book goes a little bit further. I rate this one because it gets down in explicit detail on posture, breathing and tone. 5 Stars!
