This is a really interesting coloring book of Norse Mythology designs. Usually, Jade Summer books are focused on females; however, in this book, there is a full range of mythological characters including many men and some creatures.The designs have a very realistic look to them rather than a comic character type feel. The names of each character is included in the design. It is incorporated so well, it becomes part of the design and creates almost a storybook type feel to the entire book. There is a definite use of shading and cross hatching throughout which give the designs an almost sketch-like feel but leaves them still fairly easy to color.The designs are quite detailed and will take time to finish. While the designs have backgrounds, some are much more elaborate than others. The overall designs are not what I consider intricate as the elements to color do not require special small nib pens/markers. I am able to use a wide variety of coloring medium on these designs.While you can have access to .PDFs when you purchase this book, my review is based on the book as it is received from Amazon. That way you will know what the pages look like and how they accept color. I like that the publisher provides the digital version as well so you can choose the paper you wish to use and/or to color the pictures as many times as you choose.This is what I found while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium:30 unique designs (2 copies of each) based on Norse MythologyPaper is typical of CreateSpace: white, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated. The back of the page is printed black.The designs do not merge into the binding. There is a heavy framing line at the outer edges of the design to give the project a more finished look, especially for framing. There is a slight shadowing effect to the framing line which gives the image an almost 3D effect.Glue Binding (there is room to cut the pages out if you choose to do so.)Though you cannot see the bleed-through easily due to the back of the page being printed in black, I recommend the use of a blotter page when working in this book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work well with this paper. I found that I could layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and I could blend easily using a blending stick. I tested both oil and wax based pencils. I also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.
I'm very disappointed by the quality of this book. The artwork is extremely pixelated as if someone enlarged a photo too much and then printed it on really terrible paper. I dislike trying to color against unclean lines when using pencils. Crisp, clean lines are so much better for details.To make this book even worse is the AWFUL paper quality. It is very low grade recycled paper that doesn't hold color and just smears and smears. So frustrating.It seems that everyone wants to sacrifice quality in order to save/make a buck. This is just terrible business practices and very lazy. No pride in one's products anymore. I miss the old days when people cared about well made, high quality materials.
I am a coloring book fanatic and my boyfriend decided to give it a try since I love it so much. We looked together for something he would be interested in and this is the one he picked. It is not my cup of tea but he loves it, he doesnt color obsessively like I do, but when he does color he seems to enjoy this book.
The art contained in this book is amazing! I only WISH I had your talent, Ms. Summer, and thank you for bringing books such as this available to us. You can let your imagination go wild and color anything any color your spleen desires - no, it's lungs, isn't it? Anyway, just the artwork alone is beautiful, and when you color it in, it beautifies it tenthousandfold. No, it's gallbladder, right? Yeah, gallbladder. Sooo, try this one out - there are illustrations of many of the Norse gods and goddesses, all represented so very well, it's really cool. Wait a minute, I got it - It's HEART! Any color your HEART desires! Sew, as I say, there ya go. Ya'll be cool. Bioman out
This is another hit from Jade Summer. Clearly, much research was done regarding the content of the book, with an abundance of characters, very detailed and correct. It's so easy to get locked away for hours while coloring this little gem, and you can be as detailed or simple as you wish. This book adds to my desire to collect all of her books, and I may already be a third of the way there!
I have just recently gotten into coloring in books again.This title ~ Norse Mythology: An Adult Coloring Book with Fun, Beautiful, and Relaxing Coloring Pages (Fantasy Gifts for Relaxation), is the first of Jade Summer's books purchased. It is a fun and interesting subject. With the names of each Norse god on the picture. Some people don't like that you get 2 copies of each picture to color. I don't mind, I like having a back up to either try in a different medium or in case I mess up the first one. The pics aren't difficult or too simple. Just enough in the pic to make it interesting, but not overwhelming. I have since then bought others of hers.
Awesome book, pictures are really detailed and I've had a lot of fun coloring them. I also like the black backing to prevent bleeding.That said, The paper quality is so so, my pro colored pencils do not seem to like the paper, and even light erasing has caused holes.Additionally, the repetition of pictures is odd. I know some artist give you 2 of the same picture so you can color it in various ways. Yet she only chose a handful to do this with - I rather have had more variety.Overall I am happy - this is definitely the nicest Norse Mythology art coloring book I have foud
I love this book! I have finished nearly all the images. It is filled with Norse gods all beautifully rendered! I had a blast coloring them. Many women goddesses are included.I love gods and goddesses coloring books!Also, many of them are full body drawings with backgrounds. Immensely enjoyable to color!
