And those characters…wow! Not one is simply good or bad; they are a nice mix of complexity that keeps you guessing, especially when it comes to pointing the finger at who might have harmed Olivia. The author kept a wide net cast when looking for the suspect. I would develop a theory, and then pan to the next potential perp as the story went along and red herrings were dangled.The Night Olivia Fell is so much more than the typical suspense story. While it has all the paramount trademarks, including secrets, lies, and formidable tension, it is in a league of its own with its intensely relatable characterization and raw emotion. You will love Abi and Olivia, and you will most definitely want to wrap your arms around each of them together, as you read their story and accept their individual fates as mother and daughter.I read this book as a group read, and this was the best kind of story to read together. We shared in the tension, the love for these characters, and the guessing game at just who was guilty at the center of it all.I read the book early with a complimentary copy; however, I preordered the book because I enjoyed it so much. All opinions are my own.
Totally blown away! This book was great. Well written, this one will definitely be a bestseller. Gut wrenching and heartbreaking, I couldn’t put it down and read it in less than a day. A single mother who has had struggles with her daughter is on a mission to find out the truth of what happened to her daughter after she was found on a riverbank. This story moves between past and present and does it easily. There is so much more I want to say but don’t want to to spoil it for anyone. Well worth reading!!!
I loved RECONSTRUCTING AMELIA, so when I read the blurb for THE NIGHT OLIVIA FELL, I hoped to enjoy it half as much. Christina McDonald exceeded my expectations with this compelling mystery.Did Olivia fall or was she pushed? The police seem to have decided to half-heartedly investigate what her mother Abi is certain is a crime. Brain dead, kept alive so her fetus can grow, the list of people who could have pushed Olivia is longer than Abi can imagine. The boyfriend? The secret boyfriend? The ex best friend? Her biological father? Her half sister? Or could THE NIGHT OLIVIA FELL truly have been an accident?You will be unable to resist this unputdownable book.
I truly enjoyed this book. It is an impressive first novel by the author. It pulled at my heartstrings and had me emotionally invested from the first page. It was the kind of book I could completely immerse myself in. Told by Abi in the present and by Olivia in the past leading up to that fateful night it perfectly described the complicated and often difficult relationship between mothers and daughters.There is no love like the one a mother has for her child which the author made us see from the beginning. The author told us a wonderful multifaceted story filled with sorrow, love and the art of forgiveness.I highly recommend this book and am very much looking forward to her next one.
I was fortunate to hear about this book before the publishing date, and I'd preordered. I don't even know what I expected, but the author did a great job of making me feel like I knew the main characters in this book. I love a mystery, and this was that, but it also struck me as a story about a mother's love...in many forms. Who hurt Olivia? You'll want to read, without stopping, until you find out.
I was hooked from the very beginning with this one. I did not want to put it down and actually ended up downloading the audible version just so I could continue while on a long, lonely drive home from an event. I don't ever do audible books as they don't hold my attention but I just couldn't let this story go.At first I thought it was obvious what had happened but then the author would throw something else in and I would question my thoughts. This happened repeatedly throughout this book and not until things got to the very end did it all make sense. In other books this would drive me bananas as sometimes things seem to be thrown in for shock factor but not this author. Every twist she threw in was believable and helped move the storyline. There were so many moving parts and secrets in this book but I loved every single thing that was revealed.The characters were the best part of this book. They were real and as the story moved along you realized that no one was as perfect as they seemed on the outside and they all had their own secrets. This made every single person a suspect in my head, even Olivia herself.I have to say that I would never ever believe this was a debut novel. This author blew me away with not only her writing but her plotting. Every little thing that was questioned got an answer and the writing kept me hooked. I will keeping my eye out on what Christina has next
