If you've followed along with Adam on any social media site - you've probably seen quite a few of his comics and know about what to expect: well drawn comics that highlight feelings that many of us can relate to. There's no real "new" topics in this book compared to the comics that have been released. With that being said, most of the comics *are* new and haven't been posted on social media before.Overall, I was pleased with the book - of the new comics there were a few that definitely made me laugh and smile. It made my morning better and there are a few I'll definitely share with friends. I also appreciated just getting to know Adam more as a person as he gives us an insight into his life and feelings through the comics. The physical quality of the book was also quite good (although ordering from Amazon you'll inevitably end up with some damage to the cover). The pages inside felt good to hold and flip through. It feels like a step up from a typical manga if you've ever ordered any (although the size is about the same as a manga volume which was a bit surprising to me).Basically - if you want to support Adam and enjoy his comics - definitely pick this book up :)

Adam is brilliant. And sassy. And gifted. And funny. I decided to put my phone away, and walked to my train stop reading the book—I nearly passed out, I couldn't breathe from laughter. I arrived at my stop in tears and short of breath. Usually that's because I walked… but this time it was because I was laughing. My only complaint? I wanted it to be longer.

The reviews are accurate, a decent amount of these comics are already online, HOWEVER I wouldn’t let it stop you from buying it. Being able to physically flip through a large collection is enjoyable. There’s something a little more fun to me about being able to fully immerse yourself in a book that I can’t get from my phone while on social media. It’s less than $9 and fun to have on my coffee table for friends to flip through. It’s absolutely worth the money. It’s also nice to show the artist some extra optional support!

Adam Ellis' collection of comics will alleviate the burden of existing as you're reading it and every time you giggle remembering them later. A mixture of funny and poignant, his works are relatable as they are ridiculous. Perfection.

I <3 Ellis' work so much. SO much. But he showed so much of the content of this book on his social media, so by the time I got it, I had pretty much already read it.It also "read" less than many other comic complications I've purchased, feeling more like just singular pieces thrown together. His work is great, though!!! I kinda feel like he's just better suited to online media, or he needed someone to edit and promote this better. *shrug*

I’ve been following Adam on Insta for abut 2 years now and saw he had a book for sale. I’m throughly happy with my purchase. This brought back the feeling as a child when I had a full in color book of Peanuts in hardcover.(would always re-read it) I will definitely be re-reading this from time to time (literally couldn’t put it down after I started). I also look forward to more comic books from him. This is honestly good enough to be a show, seriously!

Frickin’ hilarious. I’ve been a fan of Adam Ellis for years and I’d expect nothing less than the best from him. I don’t buy comics often but this was well worth it. It’s fun to look at on a crappy day. Helps me when I’m feelin’ down. Give it to someone as a gift, nobody could ever dislike this.

Adam Ellis' comics are always fantastic. If you follow him on social media, you have a good insight into what to expect in this book. There are a number of comics in this book that Ellis has shared online, however there are some new ones. Either way, buying a book to support Ellis so he can continue to make future comics is more than worth it.

From the Back Cover

Philip Yancey has a gift for articulating the knotty issues of faith. In Disappointment with God, he poses three questions that Christians wonder but seldom ask aloud: Is God unfair? Is he silent? Is he hidden? This insightful and deeply personal book points to the odd disparity between our concept of God and the realities of life. Why, if God is so hungry for relationship with us, does he seem so distant? Why, if God cares for us, do bad things happen? What can we expect from God after all? Yancey answers these questions with clarity, honesty, and biblical assurance. He points us beyond life's disappointments and the cynicism they can breed to a stronger, wiser faith, a confidence in God's deep love for us, and a thirst to reach not just for what God gives, but for who God is.

I was recommended this book by a pastor when I was going through a really hard time in my life and I was having a kind of faith crisis. Honestly when I read this book, I had a break through spiritually and my faith in the Lord was fully restored, it was like a switch went on. I was in a place of agonizing emotional pain and was being beat up by the enemy and the world so if you are going through that, hang in there and read this book. Looking back, the Lord was with me and He has fully restored me, though I couldnt feel it at the time, and He's with you and will restore you!

This is such an Amazing read. Please buy and read. I can't stress enough how much light it has shed on my life. I bought it because as a Christian I often encounter people who question God and his love for us so I wanted to get some insight on what this book said. I was extremely glad I read this. Absolutely recommend.

I usually read the "one star" reviews first to see where they are coming from but in this case, I simply cannot understand their disappointment in this book at all. I respect their opinions, whether I agree with them or not. However, I do believe they missed the point. I do not have my copy of "Disappointment With God" here in front of me to refer to so please bear with me on this. The most powerful statement in the entire book was made by the man Yancey interviewed that lost his family, then was involved in a car accident and left him with a bad eye and a speech impediment. Yancey asked him something like, "Are you disappointed that God (caused/made/allowed) this to happen to you?" The man thought a second and answered, "Not at all, because God is not a 'God of life' He is a God of faith. Whatever happens to us is just life and God has little to do with it." It was something of this nature. Read this book carefully again to see and understand why. Does this mean Mr. Yancey has more foresight and intuition than all other persons of faith? No. It does not. It simply means Mr. Yancey has offered a viewpoint that makes far more sense than any other viewpoint I have ever heard or read why God does not intervene more than He does on our behalf. Most of us tend to blame God when bad things happen to us; "He could have stopped it!" or "Why did He do this to me?" or "Why did He allow this to happen?" But, He did not stop or prevent these tragedies. Yancey goes on to say that God is so . . . huge, so massive and is the ultimate in intelligence that if He appeared and tried to explain why He did things the way He does, it might be like trying to explain how a Pentium computer works to some Kung San Bushmen. We human beings are NOT the ultimate in intelligence. One of the one star reviewers referred to the book as a 'horror'. The way I see it, Mr. Yancey's viewpoint is as though he is out standing among the multitudes with the rest of us looking in the same direction we are and looking at the same thing. He is not up high on a pulpit preaching 'down' with his vast knowledge to those of us without hope, in despair and the downtrodden. Yancey presents his viewpoint simply as another human being with the same questions any of us might have.To those who have suffered the loss of loved ones and wondered "Where in the world was God when I needed Him?", I would fully recommend this book as it is an eye opener.

In this book Philip Yancey dares to step on some very gritty and raw territory for Christians, many would rather live in denial than admit that sometimes God 'seems' distant and disconnected from our lives. (Something that Job, David & others in Scripture were very open about.) Then Philip skillfully develops his convincing arguments for God always coming through in His way and His time, in spite of our limited, mortal understanding. If your struggling with your faith, this book will help you to gain a Biblical perspective that will turn the light on and remove any excuse for doubting the goodness of God.

I always enjoy anything written by Yancey, so this book isn't any different. He always makes you wonder about things that were said in the Bible, & how it relates to these modern times. He keeps it simple reading for any level of religious beliefs, whether you're Christian or not.

I wanted to read this book because I have felt disappointment with God on more than one occasion. I have chosen to have faith and believe He is watching, He cares, and He loves me and has a good plan for me. This book , however caused me to look at my faith and God's view of humanity differently. I think it will help me be a better listener to those who are going through disappointment with God and perhaps have a better conversation with them to offer the encouragement I feel and experience in my relationship with God.

Why do some people respond to disappointment with God with rejection and others with faith. Yancey takes you on a journey in which it is okay to question and doubt. He gives the most clear explanation of why the old testament matters and looks at the various ways God interacts with his creation through time. In this age, it is hard for our teens to find any faith at all. For me, this book will help me talk to my teen about faith.

Yancey does a great job of laying out the issues of why an individual would be disappointed with God. Any person wrestling with why does God seem silent and uninvolved--even if he exists--will appreciate and identify with his openness and candor. But there wasn't (at least for me) a real clear reason as to why a person shoudn't be disappointed with God. In the end it boils down to a decision; Be disappointed with Him or be disappointed without him. But I guess that's the nature of faith. Generally, I liked the book. This is my second time reading it.
