My primary guide to South Africa! Fodor's travel guides have not let me down yet. A full color guide with space in the margins to write notes (and I write plenty of notes) with very comprehensive information on where to go, what to see and eat, when to get there, how to survive while there, and so much more. Good information on which locations to consider, and some "Fodor's Choice" for options that are particularly interesting. It also gives a brief history on South Africa, highlighting the apartheid struggles and emphasizing how those events shaped the country. It gives information on safari tour guides, things to look out for, and many other bits of information. Referenced this plenty during my time there!

Didn't seem terribly in touch with local experiences. I also notice there's no year number - I wonder how often they update it. Will probably try lonely planet next time, i think they have better-researched and more detailed books.

Fodor's is my tried and true "Go To" travel guide, and this one does not disappoint. Excellent descriptions of history and all the different regions.There is SO much to do it is super helpful to have all the recommendations. Descriptions of the safari camps and reserves is very helpful.I really can't say enough about Fodor's - they come through every time

Not great as the index is absolutely useless....skips some significant sites on any tourist's list! I needed to use this in conjunction with the Lonely Planet guide as neither have adequate indexes, nor do they cover everything. This could be much better!

Good guide for people travelling five star Hotels and avobe, I travel four stars and it was not that helpfull.In the Stellenbosh area i did not see that the guide indicates the schedules to do the tour in the wine yards and so we missed the opportunity to do it.

Getting ready for a big trip. This book is a great resource that we are really enjoying. Lots of great travel advice for both beginning and seasoned travelers. Highly recommend.

Information was not very insightful or useful. The kindle version was hard to use and hard to search.

Very helpful when planning my trip. Some things seemed outdated by a year or two but not bad. It still was very helpful in finding things to do that were a must do vs. nice to do if we have the time.

This book chronicles all models produced from about 1986 to 2006, with the greatest focus on the hand crafted V-series cars of 1990-2000 (Virage and all its decedents). In many ways the book shows how the company has made the transition from a ultra-low volume maker of coach built cars into a maker of expensive semi-mass produced sports cars (like an English Ferrari). Personally I have mixed feelings about this transformation, but the book does a magnificent job paying homage to both eras.Each chapter details one model, or one special run of cars. In some cases the "run" describes production quantities in single digits...in a few cases it even represents a single unique car. The book itself contains amazing photographers, and was obviously produced with great attention to detail and love of the cars/company.One funny aspect of the book... Many places in the text "well known far east customer" is mentioned, but his name is never actually given. This is obviously the Sultan of Brunei. It is well known he was a major Aston Martin customer during this period, and commissioned many of the highly custom cars in the book. Since these cars are locked far away, this book is the only way to experience these works of art.I only have one minor complaint. I really wish they included more photos inside of the Newport-Pagnell factory itself. Since this book chronicles the last chapter of hand-made cars, it would have been nice to see more details of this lost art.Worth every penny.

This is a gorgeous, massive tome. Very good addition to one's Aston library, as it gives some personal anecdotes about various, often very rare, cars-- their inception and production. If you're a real expert, there may not be enough depth for you, but I learned quite a bit, for example, about the famous Pricnce of Wales V8's--I knew of their existence, and desirability, but this book gave me a bit of "color" regarding their 'back story." If you want to know a bit about more models and versions than you knew existed, like cars of which one were produced, this is a luxe way to learn about them.

Very comprehensive of the modern cars. Including many, many one off and unique Astons AND Lagondas also.An incredible resource.Hence my "Must Buy" title as above.

Awesome book. Gave it as a gift to a Aston Martin fanatic and they loved it! Highly suggested according to all online reviews that I read before purchasing.
