From the Back Cover

Aldous Huxley's tour de force, Brave New World is a darkly satiric vision of a "utopian" future—where humans are genetically bred and pharmaceutically anesthetized to passively serve a ruling order. A powerful work of speculative fiction that has enthralled and terrified readers for generations, it remains remarkably relevant to this day as both a warning to be heeded as we head into tomorrow and as thought-provoking, satisfying entertainment.

This is one of my top ten classic reading choices, and it pairs well with a reading of George Orwell's 1984. Huxley shows us a world where entertainment has become the center and everyone just wants to have a good time. He conveys tragedy in his story, and provides some scientific detail to ground the story in believability without being cumbersome.I recommend this as a dystopian classic, and I also recommend reading it with Entertaining Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman, as Postman applies the concepts in the book to a critique of the real world.

Before there was ‘The Matrix’ and ‘Bladerunner’, before there was even ‘1984’, there was 'Brave New World'. It is astonishing that Aldous Huxley wrote this tale of technological dystopia in 1932. The social elements from the story are similar to those in Orwell and Kafka and others, namely a society of obedient sheep run by the state and benevolent dictators through brainwashing and groupthink. But what’s striking about the novel is how it so astutely anticipates a society taken over by benevolent technocrats rather than politicians, a scenario that appears increasingly likely in the age of AI and genetic engineering. Huxley came from an illustrious scientific family with social connections. His grandfather was Thomas Henry Huxley, Darwin’s close friend, publicist and “bulldog”, whose famous smackdown of Bishop Samuel Wilberforce has been relished by rationalists fighting against religious faith ever since. His brother was Julian Huxley, a famous biologist who among other accomplishments wrote a marvelous tome on everything that was then known about biology with H. G. Wells. Steeped in scientific as well as social discourse, possessing a deep knowledge of medical and other scientific research, Aldous was in an ideal position to write a far-reaching novel. This he duly did. The basic premise of the novel sounds eerily prescient. Sometime in the near future, society has been regimented into a caste system where people are genetically engineered by the state in large state-run reproductive farms. Anticipating ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, only a select few women and men are capable of providing fertile eggs and sperm for this careful social engineering. The higher castes are strong, intelligent and charismatic. The lower castes are turgid, obedient and physically weak. They don’t begrudge those from the upper castes because their genetic engineering has largely removed their propensity toward jealousy and violence. Most notably, because reproduction is now the responsibility of the state, there is no longer a concept of a family, of a father or mother. There is knowledge of these concepts, but it’s regarded as archaic history from a past era and is met with revulsion. How is this population kept under control? Not shockingly at all, through sex, drugs and rock and roll. Promiscuity is encouraged from childhood onwards and is simply a way of life, and everyone sleeps with everyone else, again without feeling jealousy or resentment (it was this depiction of promiscuity that led the book to be banned in India in the 60s). They flood their bodies with a drug called soma whenever they feel any kind of negative emotion welling up inside and party like there’s no end. They are brainwashed into believing the virtues of these and other interventions by the state through subliminal messages played when they are sleeping; such unconscious brainwashing goes all the way back to their birth. People do die, but out of sight, and when they are still looking young and attractive. Death is little more than a nuisance, a slight distraction from youth, beauty and fun.Like Neo from ‘The Matrix’, one particular citizen of this society named Bernard Marx starts feeling that there is more to the world than would be apparent from this state of induced bliss. On a tryst with a particularly attractive member of his caste in an Indian reservation in New Mexico, he comes across a man referred to as the savage. The savage is the product of an illegitimate encounter (back when there were parents) between a member of a lower caste and the Director of Hatcheries who oversees all the controlled reproduction. He has grown up without any of the enlightened instruments of the New World, but his mother has kept a copy of Shakespeare with her so he knows all of Shakespeare by heart and frequently quotes it. Marx brings the savage back to his society. The rest of the book describes the savage’s reaction to this supposed utopia and its ultimately tragic consequences. Ultimately he concludes that it’s better to have free will and feel occasionally unhappy, resentful and angry than live in a society where free will is squelched and the population is kept bathed in an induced state of artificial happiness. The vision of technological control in the novel is sweeping and frighteningly prescient. There is the brainwashing and complacent submission to the status quo that everyone undergoes which is similar to the messages provided in modern times by TV, social media and the 24-hour news cycle. There are the chemical and genetic interventions made by the state right in the embryonic stage to make sure that the embryos grow up with desired physical or mental advantages or deficiencies. These kinds of interventions are the exact kind feared by those wary of CRISPR and other genetic editing technologies. Finally, keeping the population preoccupied, entertained and away from critical thinking through sex and promiscuity is a particularly potent form of societal control that has been appreciated well by Victoria’s Secret, and that will not end with developments in virtual reality. In some sense, Huxley completely anticipates the social problems engendered by the technological takeover of human jobs by robots and AI. Once human beings are left with nothing to do, how does the state ensure that they are prevented from becoming bored and restless and causing all kinds of trouble? In his book “Homo Deus”, Yuval Harari asks the same questions and concludes that a technocratic society will come up with distractions like virtual reality video games, new psychoactive drugs and novel forms of sexual entertainment that will keep the vast majority of unemployed from becoming bored and potentially hostile. I do not know whether Harari read Huxley, but I do feel more frightened by Huxley than by Harari. One reason I feel more frightened is because of what he leaves out; the book was published in 1932, so it omits any discussion of nuclear weapons which were invented ten years later. The combination of nuclear weapons with limitless societal control through technology makes for a particularly combustible mix.The biggest prediction of Huxley’s dystopia, and one distinctly different from that made by Orwell or Kafka, is that instead of a socialist state, people’s minds are much more likely to be controlled in the near future by the leaders of technology companies like Google and Facebook who have formed an unholy nexus with the government. With their social media alerts and Fitbits and maps, the tech companies are increasingly telling us how to live our lives and distracting us from free thinking. Instead of communist regimes like the Soviet Union forcibly trampling on individual choice and liberty, we are already gently but willingly ceding our choices, privacy and liberties to machines and algorithms developed by these companies. And just like the state in Huxley and Orwell’s works, the leaders of these corporations will tell us why it’s in our best interests to let technology control our lives and freedom, when all the while it would really be in their best interests to tell us this. Our capitulation to their inventions will look helpful and voluntary and will feel pleasurable and even noble, but it will be no less complete than the capitulation of every individual in “Brave New World” or “1984”. The only question is, will there be any savages left among us to tell us how foolishly we are behaving?

Do NOT bother with the Kindle version. Specifically the one with the picture of the eggs and blood. There IS a kindle version that is the correct text (with the title in red banner) listed for $10+. But the eggs and blood version is completely different, simplified, dumbed down version of the physical book. The paperback format as pictured on the product page is what I have for my physical copy and they are vastly different. I read the kindle version while at work on my computer during slow periods and then came home and attempted to read the book version where I left off, only to find that chapters didn't line up, there were entire pages of conversation missing towards the end of the book between Mustapha Mond and John, the Savage. ENTIRE. PAGES. Very upsetting to learn this. It shouldn't be on the same product page listed as a kindle version. It's a completely different version.DO NOT PURCHASE THE KINDLE VERSION.

“It is rather alarming to find that only twenty-seven years [after writing Brave New World] quite a number of those forecasts have already come true, and come true with vengeance…Some of them were foreseen, and I think some of them I didn’t have the imagination to foresee, but I t think there is a whole armory at the disposal of potential dictators at the moment.”– Aldous Huxley [1958]Known for being one of the most influential dystopian authors of all time, Aldous Huxley, who was a jack of all trades, created his magnum opus, Brave New World in 1931, which was published a year later. Nigh nine decades later, many of his ominous and scholarly insights are manifesting right before our eyes. For these reasons, Brave New World should be read through rather carefully, for it serves as a severe warning not only about what might be coming, but what is already here. This particular fusion of Brave New World and Brave New World Revisited by Aldous Huxley truly is as fascinating as it is disturbing in scope. The former offers his vision of what a dystopian world might be like, while the latter offers a trenchant examination of Brave New World. While some may call some of Huxley’s ideas ‘prophetic’ in a sense, it’s more of a logical deduction given the available information that there was at a time. If one has a reasonable amount of quality information, one surely would be able to postulate a reasonable result given humanity’s penchant for falling for propaganda in droves historically. After all, most nations historically don’t operate under true freedom. What’s more, many ‘modern’ nations already implement many of the disturbing trends written about in this sobering, if intense account of could have happened, although in fiction, which is now turning into reality.Brave New World has been compared to Orwell’s 1984 due to the engineered control grid – each of which carries different methods – and with good reason. Whilst 1984 is ruled with an iron fist, Brave New World is ruled with a velvet one. Endless arguments have ensued in many circles as to which one we are gravitating towards, and it’s definitely intriguing although distressing contemplating such facts.Huxley does an outstanding job of painting a disturbing portrait within his fictional realm. The individuals within his society – who are essentially drones – have fallen over themselves for the ‘good of all’ – for the collective. The book is littered with countless examples of this. The individual, who is the foundation of society, is thrown aside, by the wayside. In respect to this troublesome and pernicious pervasive issue, which is seen more and more nowadays, Huxley noted the following words:“Brave New World presents a fanciful and somewhat ribald picture of a society, in which the attempt to recreate human beings in the likeness of terminates has been pushed almost to the limits of the possible. That we are being propelled in the direction of Brave New World is obvious. But not less obvious is the fact that we can, if we so desire, refuse to co-operate with the blind forces that are compelling us. As Mr. William Whyte has shown in his remarkable book, The Organization Man, a new Social Ethic is replacing our traditional ethical system – the system in which the individual is primary. The key words in this Social Ethic are “adjustment,” “adaptation,” “socially oriented behavior,” “belongingness,” “acquisition of social skills,” “team work,” “group living,” “group loyalty,” “group dynamics,” “group thinking,” “group creativity.” Its basic assumption is that the social whole has greater worth and significant than its individual parts, that inborn biological differences should be sacrificed to cultural uniformity, that the rights of the collective take precedence over what the eighteenth century called the Rights of Man.”[1]Furthermore, as Huxley notes, the:“…ideal man is the man who displays “dynamic conformity” (delicious phrase!) and an intense loyalty to the group, an unflagging desire to subordinate himself, to belong.”[2]Talk about a conformity crisis! That’s exactly where society is torpedoing to as we speak. And it all starts in youth, through the public schooling system. This conformity crisis in public schooling has been spoken about at length by John Taylor Gatto in his books, Dumbing Us Down, A Different Kind Of Teacher and Weapons Of Mass Instruction. In Dumbing Us Down – The Hidden Curriculum Of Compulsory Schooling, Gatto mentions the following explosive remarks:“Mass education cannot work to produce a fair society because its daily practice is practice in rigged competition, suppression and intimidation. The schools we’ve allowed to develop can’t work to teach nonmaterial values, the values which give meaning to everyone’s life, rich or poor, because the structure of schooling is held together by a Byzantine tapestry of reward and threat, of carrots and sticks. Official favor, grades, and other trinkets of subordination have no connection with education; they are the paraphernalia of servitude, not of freedom.”[3]“Schools are intended to produce, through the application of formulas, formulaic human beings whose behavior can be predicted and controlled.”[4]“…schools and schooling are increasingly irrelevant to the great enterprises of the planet. No one believes anymore that scientists are trained in science classes or politicians in civics classes or poets in English classes. The truth is that schools don’t really teach anything except how to obey orders.”[5]Gatto minces no words. If you wish to see what is happening, right from the start via the public indoctrination system, READ John Taylor Gatto’s work. It is HIGHLY recommended.Returning to Huxley, the latter part of Brave New World & Brave New World Revisited also features Huxley’s letter to Orwell. Additionally, and arguably more importantly, the second book, Brave New World Revisited is absolutely mind bending.Brave New World Revisited includes intriguing information at length that supplements droves of added substance for the reader to familiarize themselves with some of the deeper niches of everything Brave New World stands for. One could view it as a few different essays on many of the most disturbing components and trends, featured in Brave New World, which society is currently following.Topics which are discussed include conformity, the collectivization of society, the attack on individuals, brainwashing, propaganda, social engineering, distractions within society, chemical persuasion, possible solutions and much more. Brave New World Revisited encompasses nigh 100 pages of additional information that should be essentially mandatory in education. It would be interesting to see what Huxley would have thought about the precision condition that is currently taking place on a mass scale in society today. There are so many angles to this, that one could write many essays and analyze it in a myriad of ways. Many have, and rightly so.With the recipes featured in Orwell and Huxley’s books, the system seems to be changing day by day, and not for the better. Propaganda, entrainment technology, social engineering, overmedication of the population, and more, are all being used to maliciously mold society to become not only uniform, but obedient to boot.Incisive individuals who value freedom and have inquiring minds should not only make this part of their library, but should prepare for what’s already here and much of what’s coming soon.Couple Brave New World with 1984, and you have the recipe of what the world is beginning to look like, which is a merger of those two ideals. And that’s a very, very disturbing proposition.Be warned._______________________________________________________________Sources:[1] Aldous Huxley, Brave New World & Brave New World Revisited, p. 257.[2] Ibid., p. 257.[3] John Taylor Gatto, Dumbing Us Down – The Hidden Curriculum Of Compulsory Schooling, pg. 69.[4] Ibid., p. 23.[5] Ibid., p. 21._______________________________________________________________If You are interested in the subject, the Book Reviews below follow as highly suggested reading:1984 by George OrwellDumbing Us Down by John Taylor GattoA Different Kind Of Teacher by John Taylor GattoWeapons Of Mass Instruction by John Taylor GattoRotten To The (Common) Core: Public Schooling, Standardized Tests & The Surveillance State by Dr. Joseph P. The problem with this book is it is recommended for kindergarten through second grade, but one one page the author describes "murder holes" on the castles where occupants would pour out boiling water or scalding sand onto approaching possibly invaders. There is also a description of the dungeons where one can only enter through a trap door. "Murder" is really not a vocabulary word I want for my 5 year old. Usually, we enjoy the fun and quirky fly guy books.

Book is more of an education books of facts of castles instead of a story. Love the fly guy stories, but myself, along with my grandkids didn't enjoy. They cut me off after reading 3 or 4 pages to read a different book.

I bought this book for my 6 year old daughter and she loves it. She loves fly guy books. I didn't realize until recently that they have these "Fly Guy Presents" books. I like that they're actually teaching the kids about something while they're reading. I will be buying more!

My 7 year old has been reading Fly Guy for years. He loves all the books. I jumped at the chance to get this book because he's also into knights and castles. He totally loves it.

The author is trying to be educational and it doesn't work. My son (5 yo) grew bored very quickly and while I tried to keep going then I got bored. The regular books are great but this not so much.

Amazing book my son loves all fly guy collection

Very happy with order and seller. Thanks

The kids love fly guy.

#174,693 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I have given this book a four only because I am in a different living wage category and mean absolutely no offense because having more money can help with comfort to a certain degree. I have alot on my plate and would love to be giving more of myself to others. Meaning I must scrub the toilets and do complete grocery shopping and such. However this book is so uplifting on serious disease and chronic pain, because I can relate to Karen's experiences on almost every level. My friends have scrambled to leave me because I remind them of one of the worst things that could happen to them. Her looking inside and out determining that life is going to be fulfilling takes guts and personally pity parties get boring after awhile. I am thankful for her for her pain management. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Chrohns, and find that all Rheumatologist do not give prescriptions for pain medication (any opioid). I am blessed that my primary doc allows it as her mother died from RA. I have to call in once a month, drive in to pick up the prescription, drive back home to my pharmacy and wait for it to be dispensed. Takes 1/2 of a day. I'm thankful Karen has hers delivered and can circumvent the process. See, this is the difference from alot of regular people. But she acknowledges this blessing and others in her life. So her self worked out formula of everyday life is the best I've read of. This has been a very helpful book, humor is absolutely necessary (I am a smart aleck too), reading is essential and mental outlook on the small personal things we normally let get us down. Feel like giving this to a healthy friend to read, but I don't think she has the guts to read it all. But would absolutely highly recommend this to anyone with any chronic pain and disease.

I don’t live with chronic pain, but I have people close to me who do. I never quite know what to say or do to be helpful. I always end up tiptoeing around, trying to balance between not being annoying and not appearing insensitive.I hoped this book might give me some tips and insight and it did. Ms. Duffy immediately put me at ease, because she made me laugh out loud on the first page. In this book she explains what her life is like after years of suffering, how she deals with it and what’s helpful to her from friends and family. It’s full of tips and hilarious anecdotes. It’s a charming, useful, fast read, clearly not intended to be a medical book. The author stays light-hearted throughout but that didn’t keep me from taking her very seriously. I highly recommend.

I chose to read this book as I search for ways to deal with chronic pain. Tired of apologizing and feeling the pressure from family and friends, so I hold up in my home wanting to be who I once was.( I really felt good in that skin! Happy and Dancing!) Karen D. Presents all kinds of paradigm s we can create to love ourselves by loving and giving to others in this life we've been given.

Karen Duffy manages to do the impossible by conveying the horror and scope of living with chronic pain while also managing to be funny, charming and insightful. It's an honest, conversational but well researched and deep discussion of her struggle. Managing to be helpful to those who suffer chronic pain or for those who have someone in their lives who suffer from chronic pain, while also being entertaining and thoughtful. The interactive portions of the book, the Bill Murray pain scale, coasters, masks, etc are a great touch and add to the sense of fun. A light, easy read on the surface that is really about some of the heaviest possibilities one can face in their lives.Highly recommended.

As a sufferer of chronic pain from injuries I suffered on 9/11, It's as if this book was written with me in mind. Someone out there knows that aside from bodily pain there is emotional pain, isolation and loneliness. Only a person who lives this every day can truly understand. It's helped me to be more accepting of my limitations and made me more aware of how the way I deal with my pain effects others. Whether you suffer from a chronic illness or are a spouse, partner, relative or friend. This book will open your heart and mind to allow healing no matter which side you're on.

Such a great read....thanks DUFF I certainly connected with her writing as I too dabble in the art of cramped fingers. Her life story is so similar to mine(86 the model, actress, gorgeous socialite part). When you become chronically ill, you search within more, spirituality is the extra gift we seem to receive, in trade of a healthy body. She is witty, fun and honest. Something that seems to be missing today. I have worked in the chronically ill arena for close to 25 yrs. So, I know if I give her book to others that are ill I know we have become a unspoken team of lighthearted lifesavers. Great read....duct tape comes in colors. :)

Karen Duffy has always been the most beautiful woman in the room. After she got sick, she also became the funniest. She is a very beloved person in New York, Hollywood, and beyond. I’ve always wondered what the secrets to Duff’s strength were, and now she has shared them with us all in her inspirational, deeply moving, well-researched, often hilarious book Backbone. Duff’s pages are filled with Jeopardy-worthy tidbits, like Florence Nightingales’s struggle with Crimean Fever, nestled among keeper quotes like “I think I am a very lucky unlucky person” and “I learned that failure is temporary, but giving up is forever.” Not to mention quips like, “I didn’t think eyelids could gain weight” and “My health may be going to hell, but I want to look good for the trip.” The graphics, like her cut-out “Excuse Dice” and Bill Murray’s pain chart are side-splittingly funny. Backbone is the pain-relief prescription we all need right now.

Fantastic book. My copy came quickly and was just as I expected.

A cogent discussion, from my teachers

I've wanted to get a hold of this book for a long time, as I had seen some of the graphs/charts from it through my design career. I had even spotted a few copies sitting on the shelves of some of the older, progressive architects I work with. But getting a hold of a copy... that would be tough.Fortunately, this update and reprinting is now available to the public and I jumped right on purchasing it. This is a fantastic design guide that is just as relevant today as it was in the 1960s. In fact, one could say it's even more relevant now as we may have finally become wise to the need for bioclimatic buildings and thoughtful design. If I was teaching a course (which I hope to soon) on bioclimatic design, this would be the book I assign and work from. It elegantly and clearly bridges the disciplines of architecture, engineering and biology. It goes deep enough into each of those disciplines to provide real information and data - but it also assumes the reader may not be an expert in each of those subject matters, so it also provides overviews of the principles involved in each.Frankly, this is a book that I think every student intent on designing buildings should be forced to study at some point in their academic career.

Computers, simulation software and standards have made the design process much easier, faster, and safer…but it’s not always better. Design with Climate is a refreshing reminder of what it means to not only know about a local climate, but to feel it.It’s a bit like the difference between describing a radiant cooling system by its water temperature and airflow rate or saying that it is like the “cool breeze under the shade of a tree”.This timeless new edition provides professors, students and practitioners with a solid foundation in understanding climate forces and the possible responses and solutions to our current climate challenges.

Decades ago, Victor Olgyay taught the principles of designing with nature and climate in a deliberate and measured way. While he anticipated the future of ecological design, he might be dismayed to know how long we are all taking to adopt these elegant energy saving strategies on a wide scale. With the convergence of today’s affordable clean energy technologies and a rebirth of Olgyay’s timeless design approach, the time is ripe for change. I’ll be recommending this new edition of Design with Climate to all my building and construction students at Stanford and all the architectural and design teams I work with on net zero and low-energy buildings.

Appreciating the work of pioneers who paved the way for all green building practitioners to follow is incredibly important. Design with Climate was groundbreaking and important when it first came out - and just as important (or maybe more so) today. I'm thrilled to see this seminal text re-released! Too often we look to technology as a crutch to get us out of the designed problems we put ourselves in. This book reminds us that we can work within the constraints of climate to produce design solutions that are profound, appropriate and responsible - and seemingly without limit. Thank you for putting this gem back in print! A must read for all students and practitioners of design.- Jason F. McLennan, Founder of the Living Building Challenge

An excellent reference book. Informative and visionary for modern challenges.

I love the drawings in this book first, and the font second. It’s so beautiful they kept the latest edition true to the original. I also love that a whole new generation of designers can read this important text and go out and apply it. Please don’t delay!

I agree with Sally - it was hard to put this book down, which is why I read it in two sittings. Many people think they know all they need to know about polio, but this book presents its hidden real history in an engaging way, juxtaposing apparently unrelated stories of local life with medical theories and developments, all culminating in revelations that will make you question everything you've ever been told about this fearsome disease.Highly recommended!

I'm only halfway through the book - I'd read it in one setting, but I'm trying to process it all! The author starts with isolated cases of "infantile poliomyelitis" 'way back in the early 1800's, where it was blamed on "teething." (What did children have for teething medication? Mercury-based concoctions. It is hard for us to believe in this day and age... no, wait, I've got 7 mercury-laden fillings in my mouth right now.)As farmers & communities began to spray first arsenic-based "Paris Green" in the late 1800s to control insects, and then lead arsenate (lead & arsenic mixed together), more cases of paralysis and poisoning appeared, but with no detectable source of "infection." When the public began to question possible toxicity from pesticides, they were shouted down and mocked - but not challenged with actual scientific data, as far as I can tell so far in the book. From the book:"Reports of children killed by arsenic poisoning began to surface, and authorities - who had worked tirelessly to enforce the mandatory application of pesticides - blamed the deaths on improper spraying techniques by reckless farmers."Reading the accounts of baffled doctors and public health authorities has me shaking my head in astonishment and saying, "The more things change, the more they stay the same."Very engagingly written, and HARD to put down! I'll update when I'm done with the book.

This is a brilliant work. Beautifully told, the story consists of many diverse threads of history, and Forrest Maready weaves them together into the logical fabric of truth that all can now easily understand. I challenge ANYONE who believes that "polio was a simple virus to be vanquished by vaccines" to read or listen to this book. Prepare for new depths of understanding to unfold before you. We deserve the truth, and this author has done humanity a monumental service by gathering this information and telling us this hidden history. I purchased the audio version of this book, and most highly recommend it to all who dare or care to understand the devastation of modern disease, and how society must wise up and look behind the simple stories we have been told if we are to create health. The Moth in the Iron Lung should be required reading/listening for ALL medical, scientific and governmental professionals as well as parents.

Important read for getting an unvarnished, and likely much more correct than the widely promoted, propaganda laced representation of polio history. Compelling portrayal that makes an effort to canvass many data points that may weigh in to events for reader consideration.

Couldn't put it down. A most important book. On par with Rachel Carson's landmark book, Silent Spring.

Forrest Maready has written a most compelling, interesting book with "The Moth in the Iron Lung"!Anyone who cares about public health or is a health conscious individual needs to read this book about the polio epidemics of the 20th century. Maready presents a compelling chronology of inadvertent, human-caused, catastrophic events from 1869 in Boston and through the present day in countries like India. The Moth in the Iron Lung reads like a suspense thriller of community health. You’ll find out how most of poliomyelitis outbreaks historically were man-made. Find out why polio affected mostly children year after year in the warmest seasons and quietly stopped each fall and winter. Why did it take “medical scientists” 40+ years to conclude that a polio virus is only one of many causes of poliomyelitis? Can we say for sure that the polio vaccine is the reason we have virtually no polio outbreaks today in the US and in most other counties of the world?A brilliant and easy book to read.

I certainly cannot call this a book about the poliovirus, simply because the evidence that Forrest presents documents that the majority of "polio epidemic" was unlikely caused by any of the strains of the poliovirus. The evidence over the last 100 years clearly points to the chemicals like arsenic, lead, and DDT that we placed on our food, in our environment, and even directly on our children. However, it is easier to blame mother nature than our fellow countrymen for allowing our children to become ill and even succumb to death by our own hands. It is more comfortable to fight a virus, then to blame our system for progressing too fast and too dangerous with chemicals that we know little about their longterm effects. If we do that, then we are against "science" and advancement. It is a shame we cannot compromise and advance carefully with new products until we are sure (longterm) that the effects will not end in illness and death. The book discusses this disease with an easy to read and understand method that Forrest is able to convey. After reading this book, you will know more about the "polio epidemic" than any doctor or nurse you run into. This is the most comprehensive books on paralysis that I have read in 40 years. My background from the 1970/80s is in the pharmaceutical field (biostatistician) including work with vaccination testing and design. I feel that the lessons we should have learned with pesticides (and other chemicals in our environment) likely have been missed or forgotten.

Incredible. This book, along with Crooked, is doing a great service for many as we gather the facts about diseases of the past and the present. This information will help us make better decisions about our health and the health of our children. Thank you Forrest.

I love this book and can't recommend it enough. I previously bought an Air Fryer Cookbook (not to be named) and was disappointed as the recipes were boring and not enough diversity. Paula's book has it all apps, mains, seafood, sides, desserts and an entire chapter dedicated to the potato. I love the Shepherd's Pie Stuffed Potatoes, Air Fried Mac & Cheese Squares, Fried Asparagus, and of course Paula Deen's Southern Fried Chicken which is so crispy and crunchy you would swear it was deep fried. I am looking forward to making The Fried Apple Pies for Thanksgiving. Using my Air Fryer frees up my oven for everything else I'm making. Well done and thank you!

Excellent! Lots of great recipes. Colorful, large pictures of food. Nice layout of chapters and recipe pages. I havemade many of the recipes and they are easy to follow and delicious. Great if you are new to Air Frying. I would highly recommend thiscookbook. If you have kids, they will love the food too!

Oh my, so many yeses to this book! It is worth every penny. It's hard to turn each page because there is some seriously amazing food photography going on in this book. I just loved the touch of every page. The recipes are what you would expect from Paula Deen - absolutely delicious and very southern, at least to this Californian :)

Have several air fryer cookbooks, but this one by far is the best one. Her recipes are delicious and easy to prepare. It is my go to cookbook.

Paula Deen without all the butter. Just as delicious and everything is pretty easy. The coconut-fried shrimp is a must.

Love it it's a good book we use it all the time. amazing recipes and they're well worth the money.

Wife has tried many recipes .don't know why other complaints about referring to Paula Deen seasoning she has the recipe to even make the seasoning yourself in the book just read it's in there.

Great cookbook for air fryers! More ideas for cooking other things besides precooked frozen foods
