I am just learning about essential oils and before I invest in many expensive vials of oil, I want to know a lot about the topic. The author's cheerful writing style and recipes make the topic sound very simple, but the more I read here, the more cautious I became. In the section on "Diabetes," she breezily states "The oil recipe below will surely help you get it [the pancreas] in control without using insulin or other invasive method," by rubbing the oil on the patient's feet and pancreas [p.88]. I bought [ASIN:0892817437 Advanced Aromatherapy: The Science of Essential Oil Therapy] to check on that, and Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt says "Aromatherapy is even less effective in treating metabolic or degenerative conditions which have evolved over years and are only slowly reversible, if at all. [p.99]." I'm not in the medical profession, but I am an avid gardener, so I know there is a difference between the eastern red cedar species of North America (juniperus virginiana) which she mentions Native Americans using in the "Cedarwood" entry [p. 33] and Western red cedar (thuja plicata, which is toxic around cats) and the Old World cedars she mentions the ancient Egyptians using. The species for them isn't given, so it might possibly be cedrus atlantica ("Atlas cedarwood'), from Morocco, or less likely, the cedrus deorada from the Himalayan mountains. Which one to buy? Each has its own chemical compositions and different uses, and in the case of Western red cedar, pet toxicity issues. The Schnaubelt book has received some lower review "stars" due to the scientific nature of his chemical analyses, but if we agree essential oils are strong and powerful distillates, I personally want to be as informed as possible before I buy, diffuse, rub or cook with any of them. I have been an Amazon.com customer since 1995, and _Essential Oils the Complete Guide_ is the first one I'm returning.

this gave me what I feel was pretty basic info. There is so much great info online about essential oils. Between blogs, company pages, third party testing pages, social media groups and pages. I really feel like you can find all of this info on your own. It is nice to have it all in one place. But honestly there is so much info out there I kind of feel like you are limiting yourself by only using one resource. It is a great beginner book to give you the jist of what the craze with essential oils is all about. But do your research. Trust me! These oils are an investment. Look into your companies. You will be spending a lot of money on these items. Make the investment to get something that is quality.

Essential oils are a great, natural alternative treatment for many things, as well as great for massages. Whether you need something to treat acne or depression or even arthritis, this book is an essential guide to all that are out there. For example, while we all know peppermint extract is used in things like toothpaste, it can also help reduce a stuffy nose and aid in digestive issues.I liked this book so much more than other essential oil books I've browsed through because it gives the recipes by ailment in alphabetical order. So, for example, if you need to treat a burn, just jump to the "bumps and burns" section, or use the more than convenient clickable link from the table of contents.

This book is very basic and very introductory so if you have any knowledge already of essential oils and their potential uses, move on to a different book. The title is misleading in calling itself a "Complete Guide." The font seemed unnecessarily large to me, like they were trying to take up more pages, and the book doesn't really follow a logical sequence, I didn't think. For a basic introductory book, I suppose it's fine. If you're looking for anything more than that, this probably isn't the book for you.

I have been a fan of essential oils. It has been my way of relaxing, its aroma just soothes my skin and really calming to smell. I even use it on me when I get a massage. So when I saw this book I got really interested. I have been curious on how does it made, and finally, secrets are reveladed and I can now make my own. Not only for my use, also as a gift or maybe as a business. A big help.

This book has some bad information and talks about "treating" cancer and diabetes with essential oils. Don't believe that crap. It is also poorly written, grammar problems. Don't waste your money!

Good book. Great Book. Lots of valuable information for a new do it yourselfer. I love to learn new things and this is something that I really want to learn more about. I want to stop using chemicals and getting more into natural ingredients.

the reason i didn't give it 5 stars is a) there are what i consider to be unsafe suggestions in this book, and b) they don't list no where near all the essential oils!
