Growing up in a Cuban household, and raised on Cuban food means you have high expectations when it comes to that particular cuisine. Ana brings to the audience an authentic Cuban experience with her book. Not only are the recipes included the same as familial recipes of my own and other Cuban families. She brings humor along with her own experience of growing up Cuban. This by far surpasses any other Cuban cookbook I have purchased, and is also the best in the English language. If you have been searching for a book with authentic recipes to delight your guests, look no further, this has all the Cuban favorites!
I adapted many of the recipes to my slow-cooker and pressure cooker, and they are still just as good! FYI, for the dried bean recipes, the pressure cooker cooks the beans better than a slow cooker. I have gotten rave reviews from everything I've made so far.We have discovered an entirely new cuisine in my family, and I still have no idea who Ana Quincoces is, but a big thank you to her for writing this book. The only recipes I probably won't use are the ones that involve deep-frying--sorry, I don't deep fry, ever, but I am looking to make these dishes in some other way.
I received this book today as Amazon said I would. Right away...I took the opportunity to go through it page by page and "I Love It". Ever since my mother passed away in 2011 I lost track of the Cuban Food she used to cook for me. Being Cuban this book brought back many pleasant memories of her. I am looking forward to cook some of the dishes she used to cook for me. I am sure they are not going to taste the same as I will never duplicate the love she used to put in every dish she made for me, but the memory will be worthwhile! I love this book! I purchased it after seeing Ana on Real Housewives of Miami and reading great reviews about this particular book. Her recipes are easy to follow, and I love how she gives little tips and tricks as to her favorite brands of certain ingredients. As someone who is new to Cuban cuisine, I love that there's a glossary in the back describing ingredients that are unfamiliar to me. She also has included sample menus, tips as to which dishes compliment each other well, conversion tables for measurements, and a guide to some websites where you can find ingredients. There are many more recipes than I was expecting, including beverages and dessert!
What a wonderful book! Quincoces got all the recipes right, and they are all very easy to follow. So far I have made two of the recipes, and loved them. I just wish I could make the seafood recipes, but my body has a hard time with shellfish. Still, it looks like she's got all the mainstay Cuban recipes in here. I need to order another copy though, as I am sure this one will get worn down quickly. LOL

Yes, I reminisced looking at all the recipes. I was born in Cuba and cooking is my passion.I bought the book just in time to make the "pernil" as well as the black beans and yuca which are the main staples of a Xmas dinner. The pernil was wonderful and the yuca was delicious. The black beans were very good, but my previous recipe was tastier. I made the guava cheesecake and I cannot stop eating it. Cubans love sweet deserts and this one is definitely a sweet one.Loved the book for its simplicity and ease of cooking as well as for the anecdotes related to the recipes. Definitely a book I recommend to have in your cooking library.
I made several dishes from this cook book and all were outstanding. My favorites, thus far, are the Arroz Con Pollo and the Guava Cheesecake. The latter is not authentic but it should be! It's just that good.The author injects personal stories and humor in the narrative. Something which I love. There's always a story or two behind a recipe, and I enjoy reading about them.If you're into Cuban cooking, don't hesitate to purchase this book.
