This is a good book for those wanting to expand their knowledge of making your own cosmetics. Novices to the topic will want to supplement with other books on the topic. The author begins with Essential Oils and explains their use and effects, then moves to lotions and balms. This is where the novice may need to supplement a little, drawing on instructions from other books on lotion making. Those who are experienced at making lotions will have no trouble understanding and following the instructions. The section on cleansers and toners is a little thin. There was only one recipe for a cleanser and one for a scrub. And, granted, there isn't much to making toners, but a little variety in this section would have been helpful. There were also some formatting problems--half empty pages and one picture that blocked part of the text. While it makes the book look less professional, these problems don't detract from the usefulness of the book.I would definitely recommend this book with the caveat that newcomers to the craft may find it lacking a bit. [...]
The basic recipe repeated several times over does not lend the promised results. Wasted oils, expensive perfumes, and time. I don't recommend this book for beginners. Perhaps the author has her own business selling lotions, but I don't think these recipes have been followed and tested by the author. I think she knows how to do these things more intuitively, and the results from these recipes will only disappoint the beginner. The understanding of how to do this craft is totally lost when all the thinking leads to failed results. I bought this book because the front cover looked professional. I personally don't think the recipes to any of those things on the cover is in this book. You'll get jelly like goo, water separation, or too stiff of a lotion. Try using it and it will be cold, clammy, and greasy. I have really dry skin and I make lotions using other recipes.
I've played around with soaps and scrubs, and this book did provide some additional info as I consider making additional products for myself and my family. There's a decent index, and I found the information on various essential oils to be helpful but rather short. There was only 1 recipe for lip balm, and it includes lime essential oil, which I found surprising as I've seen numerous warnings against using it in lip balms as it is photosensitive. I was also surprised there was not a basic shampoo recipe, but rather just advice to use your favorite shampoo and add essential oils, which doesn't seem like a particularly good idea unless you have thoroughly researched all the ingredients in your shampoo.
I got this book for free, but after reading through the information and recipes I've recommended it to others - even to pay for it. It's comprehensive and well written. Includes a thorough explanation of the ingredients used, why and how they benefit your skin, and how to use them effectively. This book also outlines ingredients to avoid when purchasing cosmetics - which I found helpful. Since reading this book I've purchased many of the necessary ingredients to make some of these lotions with good results so far.
I found this book to be a great treasure trove of concise, easy to read recipes for natural creams and lotions. She also included great information on the benefits of each essential oil as well as each oil or wax used in the recipes. I found this to be especially informative. I would recommend this book to any interested in making their own natural creams and lotions, free of chemical additives.
I give this book a big five stars. I learned so much about making easy and safe products for your face body hair all over. It tells about what is safe to use on problems such as dry or oily or acne wrinkles. You must read this book it's great . Bath stuff for all kinds of problems like tired stressed .
This book will teach you how to make lotions, bath salts, and all sorts of other beauty products in an all natural way. Straightforward and easy to understand. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the grammar mistakes in some parts of the book. One editorial mistake that sticks out to me is that there was a paragraph that was written twice. Amazon and the authors need to review these books more thoroughly before releasing them on Kindle! This is not the first time I have encountered this problem with my Kindle books.
