From School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 1-Rinker is back with her construction vehicles prepping for the holidays. The rhyming text follows how the machines work hard to construct a "special house" that must be ready for Christmas Eve. Each machine is allotted three or four pages to describe their work, before being given a gift (Bulldozer gets a new carbon steel blade), and then bidden Merry Christmas and Goodnight. Once Crane finishes the job by topping the construction with a star, new fire trucks and rescue vehicles roll in, and readers realize what has been built: a new fire station. As usual, these happy trucks are anthropomorphized just enough to appeal to kids. The neocolor wax oil crayon illustrations offer bright colors and scenes that are engaging without being overwhelming, ending with peaceful, snowy scenes. Although this is a bit lengthy for toddler audiences, children will love shouting out the names of the vehicles and the parts they are gifted, as well as guessing what they're creating. VERDICT Rinker's popularity makes this holiday title a first purchase for all public libraries. It's perfect for one-on-one and small group sharing.-Liz Anderson, DC Public Libraryα(c) Copyright 2011. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. Oh my goodness, this one is going to be a classic - just like the original! The illustrations and rhythmic text are just as great as the original, but whereas the original is a more simple book about working hard and going to sleep, this one has more of a storyline in that all the construction vehicles are building a new home for the fire engines - How cute is that?! Truly, this should be part of your home collection. I bought it for my kids even though they're older now - they're 6 and 8 and I know they'll still be THRILLED when the "book fairy" leaves this in their bedroom one night this in December.

My son is almost two and love the Construction Site books. We have the other two, but this one was not very good. I would pass. There really isn't reference to Christmas, a tree, Jesus, Santa, nothing....they get gifts for their worn out parts but that's it.

I got this for my 2-year-old nephew (now three), and he asks for it to be read constantly. He is an avid "reader" and has about 200 books to choose from, and chooses this series over and over. I've gotten him all three, and they are one of his favorites. And I actually like reading them to him, too, which is a big plus. I'm impressed by many of the books, but some are really lame and phoning it in. Since "again" is the favorite word of all my nieces and nephews, you know you're going to be reading it a lot. I appreciate the ones that are easy on me as well.It also helps that the drawings are great, and look just like all his toys--and the real thing in the new building going up near me that we facetime about several times a week.

It's adorable how much not only my almost-2-year-old son loves these books, but our whole family! We have the board book of Good Night, Good Night Construction Site, the hardback Mighty, Mighty Construction Site, the way-too-cute stuffed Excavator, and now this! And it's as charming and fun to read as the others. Each construction vehicle finds a gift just for them which makes their Christmas very special after working so hard to get a new "home" for the fire trucks built by Christmas Eve. Highly recommend! This author and illustrator duo is great!

I knew this would be perfect for my 4 year old great nephew. I bought it, and it was perfect. My sister and I were talking about what we had each bought for the 4 year old. She said she had bought the best book. It was this one. We had both thought this the perfect book for our grandnephew. Next day I get photos of the gifts for each of the piñatas from my nephew, the piñata gift giver. One picture, the one for the 4 year old's piñata, caught my eye. In the pile was this book, a third copy for the 4 year old. This is a great book filled with trucks and all sorts of machines each of which receives a gift on Christmas Eve.

What a great extension of the Construction Site series. My son couldn’t wait until Christmas time to read it. He asked, “when is the Halloween book coming out?”

Cute book! We have all her books. Not as great as the original. Does anyone know why this book isn’t illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld as all the others?

My son, who is all-boy, isn't much for books. However, he absolutely loved Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site which we borrow from the library, so I bought this for him for Christmas. It has been just as much of a hit. A great book for an active little boy who often finds it not worthwhile to sit for a book. And my husband and I don't get sick of reading it. It is cute and creative.
